OUR PAMPHLET MAKES IT TO THE INTERNATIONAL APA CONFERENCE
It has come to our attention that at the international APA convention in April 2012 our pamphlet and glossary of terms was used in a workshop. See the following for how it all went down
About midway through the presentation, the speaker put up a Power Point slide that had scans of a document. The speaker said "Here is an example of how the Tea Party alerts their members to key words and phrases. This scan comes from a flyer that we obtained which was put out at a recent tea party forum in the Inland Empire." it was a scan of our program glossary. This then became an exercise for the group.
The groups were seated at round tables with 10 people to a table and had a stack of index cards with words. They told the group to go through the group and pull out the words that they thought would be objectionable to tea party members and only leave in the safe words. Then construct a complete sentence from the remaining words. They all had quite a time with it, but in the end the final sentences were all pretty similar and were very generic. They had a big stack of words that were objectionable to tea party groups. The leader then said that everyone needed to get the point that language was important when dealing with the tea party.
This means that we are having a big impact on their messaging. We need to
keep this up and get more sophisticated about it.
