WHAT IS SUSTAINABLE?
Now this is interesting. I have an Oxford English Dictionary that was published in 1971. Here is the definition of "sustainable"
1. Capable of being borne or endured; supportable, bearable
2. Capable of being upheld or defended; maintainable
If you look on line to the current Oxford English Dictionary - here is the definition:
1. Able to be maintained at a certain rate or level: sustainable fusion reactions
conserving an ecological balance by avoiding depletion of natural resources: our fundamental
commitment to sustainable development
2. Able to be upheld or defended: sustainable definitions of good educational practice
Think there is some brainwashing going on here? Sure, they have kept the overall definition true to the Latin roots of "sustineo" (to bear, strengthen or defend) - but the context they try to put it in is absolute propaganda. When your children look up sustainable - they will not be looking at just the root of the word, nor just the English equivalent of the word, they are now only looking at the written indoctrination of our regulatory, top-down society.
